About Dana J. Smith

I am a current assistant professor at the College of the Holy Cross. In the Fall of 2024 I am teaching ECON 110, Principles of Economics.

I hold a PhD from the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University. My research interests lie at the intersection of labor and development economics.  I focus primarily on the economics of immigration and labor migration, with particular attention to the determinants of migration, the impact of policy on immigrants and immigration decisions, the role of immigrant workers in the US, and how migration and remittances connect cross-border communities.

I arrived at Cornell in 2018, following my graduation from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania.  At Lafayette, I completed a dual major in Math & Economics and International Affairs.  I minored in Spanish and played four years of Division 1 women’s lacrosse. When I’m not working I enjoy watching any and all women’s sports, hiking, and skiing the icy east coast.
